How to Export a WhatsApp Chat on Android

On Android the export lives in the chat's overflow menu. In under a minute you can produce a text copy of a school group and hand it to a summarizer, without connecting any account.
Step-by-step on Android
- Open the group chat
- Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner
- Choose More, then Export chat
- Select Without media
- Pick a destination — Drive, Files, email or another app you control
TXT or ZIP: both are fine
Android usually shares a .txt file, and sometimes a .zip. Either works. If the archive contains media, those files are ignored and only the chat text is read.
Handling very large groups
- Export without media to keep the file manageable
- Summarize a shorter period rather than the whole history
- Paste just the relevant stretch when you only need the last day
Turning the export into a summary
Upload the file, choose the period and the language you want, and you get a short list of announcements, deadlines, payments, homework and things to bring — instead of scrolling through the whole thread.
Privacy note
Exports contain other people's names and numbers. Keep the file in a private location, share it only with tools you trust, and delete it when you are done.
